Harold T and Alice M McCarthy Memorial Scholarship

This endowed scholarship is in memory of the donors,Harold T. McCarthy and Alice M. McCarthy. The McCarthy’s are siblings who were born and raised in the city of Salem, Massachusetts. Mr. McCarthy spent his 30 year career as an English professor at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He loved to travel and his lifelong commitment was to personal growth and helping his students achieve the same growth. Ms. Alice McCarthy spent her 50 year career in the field of nursing, both in hospitals and college nursing. She had an intense love for the arts and spent her later years exploring and developing her interest and skills a variety of art mediums.

To provide an annual full scholarship award to needy and talented students whose desire it is to further their education in the area of Art + Design. The award to continue with the students for their four years at Salem State College. Annual award covering tuition, fees and room and board. The students must meet the criteria established and defined: the annual award is to be made to an entering freshman/men who has/have a financial need, and is enrolled as an Art major in the Art Department at Salem State University.
